Bankdata has hired Thomas Yde Frederiksen as its new Vice President of Digital Channels. He joins Bankdata with extensive experience from both Danish and international tech companies and will now lead, among other things, the mobile and online banking platforms that Bankdata develops and maintains for a number of Danish financial institutions.
“With Thomas, we gain a leader who has first-hand knowledge of the tech epicenter in San Francisco. He knows the culture, the methods, and the pace from the inside – and he has experience leading teams that must balance complex stakeholders, high expectations, and constant change,” says Rune Lippert, Senior Vice President of Customer Channels at Bankdata.
Startups and Silicon Valley
Thomas began his career as a student assistant at Mobilethink but quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming COO and helping sell the company to international investors. He then joined the Danish startup Gaest.com, which he helped professionalize and scale until Airbnb acquired the company.
Following the acquisition, Thomas joined Airbnb in Silicon Valley, where he was tasked with building new B2B business opportunities for Airbnb for Work. He later moved to Peerspace, where he was responsible for building and scaling all international markets outside North America.
A Major Leadership Challenge
After six years in American companies, Thomas Yde Frederiksen is now refocusing on Denmark to take on what he himself calls his biggest leadership challenge to date:
“I will be leading the largest team I’ve ever managed and facing challenges I haven’t solved before. That is exactly the kind of opportunity I’ve been looking for. Bankdata gives me the chance to get closer to the core of an organization where leadership, relationships, and business-critical decisions happen – while also applying my international experience in a new industry,” he says.
Bankdata develops digital products for eight Danish banks, which jointly own the company. Nearly one in three Danish bank customers use Bankdata’s products, which include mobile and online banking, card payment solutions, and systems for capital markets trading. Founded in 1966, Bankdata today has more than 1,000 employees across offices in Fredericia, Silkeborg, and Aarhus.
