Future-proofing technology and making a difference for others
I work as a software developer in the TAR (Tax Reporting) team at Bankdata, where we’re responsible for tax reporting solutions. My daily work involves developing new software solutions on our Platform 2 – both completely new features and the migration of older solutions from Cobol to Java.

In addition to backend development in Java, I’ve also worked with frontend development using Angular via Bankdata’s own Kirby Design System. It’s rewarding to help move solutions from outdated technologies into something more future-ready. Since our team is also responsible for maintaining the existing Cobol-based solution, my contribution to new development and modernization is an important part of our progress. It motivates me to see how my work makes a tangible difference.

I never get bored! There are always exciting challenges
What makes the IT industry exciting for me is the constant development and the endless opportunities to learn something new. There’s always a new technology, tool, or solution to explore – and that means I never get bored. I love the feeling you get when something complex finally works, or when you see something you built actually being used and making a difference.

It’s also motivating to work alongside skilled colleagues and be part of a team where people support each other and solve problems together. The challenges make the work exciting, and the reward is the sense of professional pride and team spirit.

From biology to software development
I’ve always been interested in IT – but also in animals and nature. That’s why I initially chose to study biology, thinking that IT could be a hobby on the side. But once I completed my degree, it became clear that it wasn’t the right career path for me.

I then enrolled in the Software program in Aalborg, and from the very first day, I knew I had found the right place.

It was a challenging period – starting with a six-month-old baby, commuting between Aarhus and Aalborg, and even going through a pregnancy that ended with a birth the day before an exam. But despite everything, it was all worth it (though I would probably recommend doing the degree before having kids 😄).

Toward the end of my bachelor’s, I got a student job at an IT consultancy, which I later left for a job in Vejle after we moved to the Triangle Region. Finding a job hasn’t been a challenge – quite the opposite. I get the impression that female software developers are in high demand. It wasn’t long before my current manager reached out with an exciting opportunity at Bankdata – and I’m really glad I said yes.

Although the learning curve was steep at first – both because many of the technologies and frameworks used at Bankdata were new to me, and because I transitioned from being a C# backend developer to working in Java and gaining frontend experience – I wasn’t discouraged. I’ve received great support from both my team and the broader organization, and that’s made a huge difference in my development.
