Morten Sønderskov will join Bankdata as Executive Vice President and a member of the Executive Management Team on 1 November 2026. He will fill the position left vacant when Peter Braad Olesen was appointed CEO in June 2026.
Morten Sønderskov brings senior management experience from both fintech and technology companies. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Executive Management Team at Lunar Bank, where he spent eight years helping develop the bank from an early-stage concept without a banking licence into an established financial institution.
“Morten brings experience from a bank where technology has been at the very heart of the business, while we are a technology company with banking at the centre of what we do. He has also demonstrated his ability to help build and scale organisations in a highly regulated sector. At the same time, he is a strong fit with Bankdata’s culture and the values that guide our work,” says CEO Peter Braad Olesen.
Strengthening strategy execution
Most recently, Morten Sønderskov served as COO of Understory, an Aarhus-based technology company that develops software for the experiences industry. He has followed Bankdata’s development from the outside for several years and points to the company’s technological capabilities as a key reason for accepting the position.
“From the outside, I have seen a company that has undergone a remarkable transformation in terms of talent in recent years. Bankdata has built an organisation that, in my view, ranks among the strongest technology companies in Denmark. At the same time, we work on something that matters to a great many people. It is not just technology. It is critical infrastructure,” says Morten Sønderskov.
He particularly highlights the interplay between technology, regulation and societal responsibility as an area where Bankdata is well positioned.
With advances in artificial intelligence and other technologies, he also sees a growing need to balance innovation with stable operations and high levels of security.
“Technology is evolving extremely rapidly right now. At the same time, we must remain focused on operations and the stability that banks expect from us. Striking that balance will be important, and I hope to contribute, among other things, by maintaining a strong focus on driving progress.”
Morten Sønderskov, 49, lives in Aarhus with his wife and has three children aged 15, 17 and 19.
